Anderson Biography

Duane Anderson grew up in a Christian family in the state of Washington and began actively serving the Lord while still a boy. He met Joanne Groothuis in 1960 when they were both working as counselors at a summer camp for Native American youth from the Lummi Nation and several other nearby Native Nations. He was married to Joanne in 1964 and they have served the Lord together since that time. They have one daughter, Sheri. She and her husband, David Moore, serve with the Bible Institute as Technology Coordinator in charge of the AIBI Resources division. Duane is a graduate of Biola College and Talbot Theological Seminary.

Duane first started teaching weekly Bible studies among Native Americans in 1960 with a group of young people from the Lummi Nation in Northwest Washington. Then in 1962 he started working with Native Americans in the Los Angeles area where he served as Youth Director at First American Indian Church for a number of years.

A group of men from that church organized the American Indian Bible Institute in 1966 and asked Duane to serve as president. Duane and Joanne have served with AIBI since that time. Throughout the years Duane and Joanne have taught evangelistic and follow-up Bible studies in the homes of Native Americans throughout the Los Angeles area in addition to teaching Bible Institute classes. Many of the people who have become students in the Bible Institute placed their trust in Christ in these evangelistic Bible studies.

One of the things that Duane has had through the years is a passion for the planting and development of new churches. He has been directly involved in several church plants. One of those church plants, American Indian Bible Church, met in their home for its first three years. Through the years Duane has also had the opportunity to work with many church planters who are either planting churches among Native Americans or in other cultures.

Many of the manuals that Duane has written were originally written for students in his classes and for former students who had become church planters. The Lord has now seen fit to make these manuals more widely available to church planters, pastors, other church leaders and Christians throughout the world through AIBI Resources. Our prayer is that they will continue to be used for the glory of God.
